Allan Rother is the Operational Manager for our storage facility in Schulenburg, here he gives us details of a services provided and a brief history.
In the 60’s a local Schulenburg resident had a small core analysis business in Katy, Texas that generated a core storage business in Schulenburg called C&M Storage that grew into a large business with the help of computer technology and hard work.
Today this business is part of CGG. Between the mid 80’s to the current date, CGG has transferred a large portion of the oil and gas super-majors', and many smaller companies', complete warehouses to Schulenburg for long-term storage. The site grew from an original three acres to the 32 acres it occupies today. Schulenburg is centrally located between Houston, San Antonio, Austin and Victoria/Corpus Christi, which provides great access for shipments along Interstate 10 and Highway 77. We are 100+ miles inland from the coast, so there is little or no impact by hurricanes or any of the after-effects of hurricanes. Our environment is much drier than the Houston area which provides a better ambient storage for the cores and cuttings.
Schulenburg is a small Texas town with a population of 2,893 surrounded by many other small Texas towns which provides CGG with many opportunities to employee great hard-working people who are dedicated and ready to learn as technology progresses. The entire employee experience in this business currently ranges from two years to 33 years, with a current site average of 9 years. CGG managers range from 26 to 33 years of experience in the core and cutting business.
Schulenburg and the surrounding communities have a well-rounded diversification of industry that helps the area thrive. Other than core and cuttings there is a large dairy products production facility, two facilities that create plastic products, oil-related gasket production, oil & gas and marine electrical connectors manufacturing, professional Go-Cart manufacturing, a large gardening supply distribution facility, many farming-related businesses and many other small businesses that help build the community.
CGG's Schulenburg staff are able and willing to provide clients with the best service for core and cutting management and our clients appreciate the extra effort we provide.
CGG’s Core and Cutting storage site located in has been in operation for almost 40 years. The 32-acre site currently has 25 warehouses which hold a total of 2.5 million boxes of cores and cuttings from 89 different oil and gas companies based both local and internationally.
The total storage volume on site currently stands at 1,136,815 cubic foot, 97% of which is ambient, with the remaining 3% being climate-controlled storage.
The primary activities carried out at our Schulenburg site are core and cutting storage, mud sample preparation and fluid inclusion services.
Precise and organized storage of well cores and cuttings.
Air-dry wet cutting samples from the rig and box them in depth order.
Load and capture samples from specified depths to tray data for fluid inclusion testing.
Turnkey operation of environmental sample disposal using CGG-approved 3rd party vendors for testing and disposal.
Deliver and pick up cores and cuttings in and around the Houston area using our own transportation vehicles.
We catalog all cores and cuttings at a box level inventory, capturing as much data as possible from the boxes or manifest/transmittals we receive.
Core viewing room can hold 645 linear foot of core at one viewing but can have additional data ready for larger viewings with little or no downtime for setup.
