Modelling of Multi-Physics data can provide valuable information about the depth and geometry of salt, volcanics and basement surfaces. CGG’s dedicated interpretation team use CGG’s proprietary software to produce 2D and 3D geophysical models from all kinds of magnetic, gravity and electromagnetic data. This process is comparatively fast, with the average timescale being about 1 month.
2D gravity and gravity gradient modelling can be used to complement seismic interpretation and geological cross-sections. If density data is available, the geometry of interpreted horizons from seismic data can be corroborated. For a geological model to be valid it needs to fit all the available data.
Profile based modelling using Euler and Werner deconvolution can provide the depth and geometry of magnetic basement which often coincides with crystalline or economic basement. Combining the basement with a structural interpretation provides the overall basin architecture, which is useful in high-grading areas for follow-up work.

3D modelling and inversion of gravity and magnetic data allows the overall geometry of bodies with sufficient property contrasts to be mapped. Salt generally has a lower density than surrounding sediments making it an ideal candidate for 3D gravity modelling. Seismic imaging of salt bodies, particularly the base of salt, is often very challenging. The flanks, top and base of salt can be validated by 3D gravity modelling and then used to enhance the seismic imaging.
CGG proprietary software can be used for both geometry and property inversion. Basement surfaces can be inverted to map basement topography which often influences structure in the sedimentary section. Importantly, we integrate all of your other geological and geophysical data into our models to provide a holistic understanding of your geology.
