Using proprietary airborne geophysical technologies, CGG offers rapid and continuous coverage over long distances and provides important information on the near-surface geology and soil conditions. Common examples include:

  • Mapping overburden thickness and depth to bedrock to help quantify where blasting versus trenching would be required to bury a pipeline or where more fill would be required to build up the base of a road or railway;
  • Characterizing soil salinity levels to assess the required corrosion prevention and maintenance measures;
  • Quantifying ground conductivity to help determine necessary grounding requirements.

CGG’s offering does not replace the requirement for point sampling via drill or borehole program, but rather optimizes the point sampling requirements by rapidly providing continuous geological coverage over the corridor, highlighting where the near surface geology is relatively uniform versus areas where it is more complex or rapidly changing.  This helps identify the ideal number of point samples needed and their optimal location; eliminating the cost of unnecessary holes and minimizing the risk of encountering unexpected geological conditions during construction.
