A Geotem® fixed-wing time domain electromagnetic survey was flown as part of the Ontario Geological Survey’s Discover Abitibi Initiative. The data collected in this survey was used to create a 3D model of a Ni-Cu-Au Discovery in property belonging to Amador Gold Corp.
Amador gold Corp. announced the discovery of Ni-Cu-Au mineralization (Cominco/Loveland zone) in its Loveland Property. Thier initial exploration program focused on historic targets, which led to better definition of the Cominco zone and new, unexpected nickel, copper and gold discoveries up to and in excess of 300 meters below surface – the down dip extension of the Cominco deposit – Loveland zone. Subsequently, Amador Gold Corp. discovered a new near-surface Ni-Cu zone approximately 30 meters vertically below surface, 400 m north of the original Cominco zone.
The Loveland property lies along the border of Byers and Loveland townships, approximately 30 meters northwest of Timmins, Ontario. The area is host to the known historic Nickle-Copper sulphide zones of Cominco (discovered 1972 – 130,000 tons of 0.68% Ni and 0.73% Cu) and Hollinger (discovered 1974 – 422,000 tons of 0.71% Ni and 0.42% Cu).

The electromagnetic data collected during the Geotem® survey for the OGS showed the presence of a complex slow decaying anomaly and indicated a dip to the northeast which is supported by the geology in the mineralized zone.
CGG’s LCT- 3MOD® was used to create a possible geological scenario for the Cominco deposit. 3MOD uses a FFT approach, enabling re-time changes to the model.
For the modelled response, five east-west trending profiles were generated and the rest was interpolated.
The diabase dikes are shown in orange, the mafic and ultramafic rocks are in red and the felsic intermediate material is shown green with the mineralization in pink.
The Geotem® survey provided regional, efficient coverage in Abitibi providing companies like Amador Gold Corp with a better understanding of the area’s potential. The modelled data from the survey provides a very clear indication of the deposits’ extent and dip direction for better drill targeting.
