E&P professional staff who wish to gain more comprehensive knowledge of petroleum exploration

Content

  • The award of a PG Diploma will be achieved when the participant has attended and successfully completed all assessments for six short taught programs over a period of 6 months to 3 years
  • The candidate can choose what topics will be covered from the following list (note: they can be taken in any order). These are each delivered as 5-10 day programs

Candidates must complete 6 courses from the following list:

  • Seismic Interpretation
  • Structural Geology
  • Geophysical Reservoir Characterization
  • Log Interpretation
  • Petroleum Geochemistry for Explorationists
  • Basin Modeling
  • Carbonate Reservoir Geology
  • Clastic Reservoir Geology
  • Play and Prospect Workshop
  • Integrated Sequence
  • Stratigraphy Workshop
  • Basin Analysis
  • Formation Evaluation

Teaching, learning activities and assessment:

  • Each course program follows a similar format of lectures, classroom practical activities, discussion and feedback sessions carried out as a full-time intensive activity over 5-10 consecutive days
  • Each course will have 3 elements of assessment:
    • Completion of practical exercises during the intensive teaching period (30%)
    • Completion of an online assessment (30%)
    • A theory examination taken at a regional examination centre (40%)
    • Overall pass mark of 50%

The qualification is a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Petroleum Geoscience awarded by the university. It can be upgraded to a masters degree upon completion of a thesis/dissertation (subject to university approval).
