Modeling and Computation of Static Solutions

Audience

The course is designed for those involved in land processing and requiring the knowledge and skills to carry out static computation.

Content

This program begins with a general review of statics, their type, datum planes, computation methods and application. Participants will learn how to derive the first breaks and verify the geometry, plus how to calculate the different statics types in the various near surface conditions. Using the first-breaks participants will model the weathering layer by multilayering or tomographic inversion and subsequently derive the statics.

The main topics covered are:

• Overview of Static
• Seismic preconditioning and loading to the interactive package
• Pick the first-break interactively and via a batch module
• Linear move-out corrected seismic, the refractor velocity optimization and update
• Source-receiver azimuth first-break stacks for shot or receiver repositioning and repositioning quality control (QC)
• First break stacks and primary static determination and quality control (QC)
• In areas of complex near-surface structure, building a layered velocity/depth model by using near surface control points. Update interactively using linear model inversion (LMI) and alternatively tomographic inversion. Compute statics corrections
• Incorporate the available auxiliary uphole information in the depth, velocity layered model generation prior to inversion and static model generation
