The GRSG is a special interest group of the Geological Society of London (GeolSoc) and the Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society (RSPSoc) and while both parent organizations are based in the UK the GRSG is an international organization with members around the globe.

Charlotte is not only one of the youngest Chairs the GRSG has ever had, she is also the first woman in its twenty-seven-year history to hold the position. She has served on the Group’s Committee since 2008 and became Secretary in 2013. Her election as Chair recognizes the commitment she has shown in making the Group so successful and her leading role in organizing a very successful and informative 2016 annual conference. Focusing on The Future of Geological Remote Sensing, Innovation and Challenges the conference drew presentations from Australia, Canada, the United States, Japan, Chile, Brazil, Israel and South Africa, as well as from many European countries. Topics of interest were very diverse and applications of advanced earth observation techniques within the oil & gas, mining, engineering, environment and transport industries were explored.

With an academic background in Physical Geography and Remote Sensing Charlotte has worked at NPA Satellite Mapping for nearly ten years. During this time she has collaborated with a wide variety of clients and partners around the world on a diverse range of satellite remote sensing projects spanning land cover, environmental change and oil and mineral exploration. Her current role focuses on technical sales and key account management. Since 2014 she has also been an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Applied Earth Observation and Geoinformation.

Richard Burren, Director, NPA Satellite Mapping, said: “NPA Satellite Mapping has a long-standing association with the Geological Society of London, and, in particular, the Geological Remote Sensing Group (GRSG) special interest group, so it is with great pride that we see Charlotte take on the role of GRSG Chair. Charlotte’s passion for, and expertise in, remote sensing and geology is evident in all her professional activities. We have no doubt that under her leadership GRSG will go from strength to strength.”
