Well Database Solutions

CGG offers a range of integration services, including specialized services for well log compilations for different industries and applications. Here are some examples of the well databases that we have created using available release data for the North Sea:

Core Analysis and SCAL

CGG recognizes the need within the E&P industry for a digital dataset, compiling conventional core analyses and core image data. Testing core is one of the ways to determine the properties of the rock forming the reservoir in which you are interested, so core material is of prime significance. As such, interpreting results from analyses on core material has long been one of the Exploration Geoscientists' most important tasks.

When modelling to develop a new prospect or field, petrophysicists in particular are keen to make the best use of all available resources. Not only will they view and describe the core themselves where possible, but they will also refer to 'heritage data' comprising previous reports on the analyses of the core material.

  • Database has regional focus
  • Search by quad, block or well
  • Fast uncomplicated access to required information
  • User-friendly front end
  • Value-added data products
  • Raw data included for reference purposes
  • In excess of 2000 wells represented
  • Where available, the core reports contain an external link to the High Resolution Core Photographs on the British Geological Surveys website

Geothermal

Formation temperature and the temperature gradient are essential information in basin analysis. This database represents the entire North Sea and uses temperature from tests as well as wireline logs.

The 'time after circulation' method is used to extrapolate log values, in association with 'Horner plots', where needed.

Features:

  • Data from 2923 wells (UK, Norway, Denmark & Netherlands)
  • Search by quad, block or well
  • Formation temperature estimation
  • Gradient calculation
  • All raw data used included for reference purposes

Pressure

CGG has collated standardized formation pressure datasets across the North Sea. High quality formation pressure tests can ultimately result in effective fluid characterization, fluid contacts determination, accurate pressure surveillance across the reservoir and to establish a good reservoir model. So the formation pressures are very important in creating a field development/evaluation plan.

The formation pressure database differentiates and extracts out normal pressure tests from tests which cannot be used for further analysis. The refining process undertaken by CGG is based on pure reservoir engineering principles, providing immediate and accurate subsurface data. The formation pressure database includes:

  • Well name
  • Depth (MD, TVD)
  • Mud pressure (Before/After the test)
  • Quality formation pressures
  • Permeability and temperature (where available)
  • Leak-Off Tests (LOT) and Formation Integrity Tests (FIT)
