We were the first geoscience service provider to introduce QEMSCAN® technology for the oil and gas industry in 2007, and developed the world’s first wellsite portable version, RoqScan™ in 2010. In Oil & Gas, our extensive mineralogy experience covers the majority of conventional and unconventional resource plays around the world. We also provide expert analytical services for mining, acid mine drainage, and environmental work.

QEMSCAN

QEMSCAN® (Quantitative Evaluation of Minerals by Scanning Electron Microscopy) is a rapid and precise automated SEM method used to obtain comprehensive chemical, mineralogical and textural data from drill cuttings, core and sidewall core, slabbed core, mine tailings, soils, river sediments and more.

QEMSCAN provides important primary geological data for a range of industries:

How does it work?

QEMSCAN is an automated method of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) that combines energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and back-scattered electron (BSE) detection to rapidly analyze and capture quantitative geochemistry data. Our typical analysis captures between 1000-3000 EDS counts per second and determines the mineralogy of over 1-million data points each hour. Full quantitative datasets are generated as well as high resolution mineral and element maps displaying textural features, mineral associations, and pore distribution. Mineralogy can be determined at any resolution down to 1µm and high resolution textural and porosity data can be captured as low as 1nm.

RoqScan

RoqScan™ is our exclusive portable mineral analysis system designed for wellsite, core store and off-site analysis. The RoqScan system provides quantitative mineralogical and textural analysis at the source of sample acquisition.

By providing real-time data with RoqScan, we have assisted our clients to make key decisions quickly, on challenges such as improved well management and drilling and completions optimization at the wellsite. Additionally, with CGG’s proprietary RoqLog™ software, elastic rock properties can be predicted in semi-real time.
