Robertson Data & Analytics: Plate Kinematics (formerly Plate Wizard) is Robertson’s on-running multi-client plate modeling tool. Designed and developed over a period of 9 years, the model is the industry’s only working global plate model with both rigid and deformable (extensional, compressional, oblique) modeling capability. The project is delivered as an Esri ArcMap Add-In which allows petroleum explorationists and research teams to visualize plate positions and relative geometries through geologic time and to import and rotate proprietary geo-referenced datasets (line, points and polygons) to past or present day positions for regional exploration screening and paleoenvironment mapping studies.
The Robertson Plate Kinematics rigid and deformable plate reconstructions are constrained by Robertson’s world renowned non-exclusive geologic data library, together with unique regional experience, fieldwork and the latest published datasets to produce data supported reconstructions for any period of time, from the Cambrian (550 Ma) to the present day.
Robertson is committed to continued investment and enhancement of the Plate Kinematics model and software with annual updates and revisions driven by feedback from sponsoring companies and areas investigated by the latest and ongoing Robertson Studies. Recent model enhancements have focussed on redefinition of deformation of the Atlantic margins (to support the 2016 Robertson Study 'Petroleum Geology of the North Atlantic Conjugate Margins'), the Indian Ocean margins (including the collision between Greater India and Eurasia), and the Caribbean.
Plate Kinematics is designed to integrate with other Robertson exploration tools including Robertson Predictions, Robertson Geochemistry, and Robertson Basins & Plays. Robertson uses Plate Kinematics internally to create rotated base maps for all gross depositional environment and paleogeographic mapping within its portfolio of Robertson Studies.
Including main tectonic elements such as spreading ridge axes, subduction zones, transforms, etc.
Experience at all scales, from fractures in thin section, through core logging, in situ stress analysis, assessment of fault seal and fault displacement, to section balancing and fieldwork in frontier regions.
