Northern Viking Graben

Mitigate near-field risk in the Northern North Sea with new dual-azimuth volume

CGG have now available a consistent regional dataset in the Northern North Sea (Norway and UK sectors),  of more than 44,000 km2 high-resolution PSDM data. Adding to this extensive coverage, CGG are now acquiring new multi-client data to provide a second azimuth in an East-West direction over the existing Northern Viking Graben (NVG) data set that also extends coverage in the UK Continental Shelf.

The existing North-South data set will be completely reprocessed, and together with the new survey will create a dual-azimuth volume to:

  • Identify and de-risk near-field exploration targets
  • Aid maturation of stranded discoveries towards development
  • Enhance the imaging of multi-directional fault patterns
  • Provide improved resolution to resolve complex reservoir stratigraphy

Additional uplift is expected from the data, with further imaging technology to be utilized and in 2021 acquisition of 9,000-12,000 km2 as more data is acquired as part of a multi-year program.

NVG Dual Azimuth

New East-West acquisition is being combined with a full reprocessing of the underlying NVG North-South data to generate a dual-azimuth seismic data set.
