Course Overview

This course presents theory and hands-on practical exercises using Gather Conditioning, an interactive program that is fully linked within HampsonRussell software. This course demonstrates the advantages of performing seismic data conditioning prior to reservoir characterization. Topics covered include:

  • A review of seismic conditioning required for time-lapse (4D) and azimuthal seismic data studies (AVAz)
  • AVO analysis of seismic gathers after applying several conditioning steps
  • Simultaneous inversion of the conditioned partial stack seismic data exercises

Course Benefits

Learn more about extracting as much information from your seismic data as cost effectively as possible. Understand the importance of seismic data conditioning and its major role in enhancing the accuracy and clarity of results from seismic reservoir characterization processes such as AVO and seismic Inversion.

Course Outline

  • Pre-stack seismic data conditioning
    • Topics: Angle gather, Super gather, Offset and Angle mutes, Inverse Q, Radon noise and multiple attenuation, NMO and RNMO, Trim Statics, AVO Offset scaling, Spectral balancing, Footprint removal, how to build chained process
    • Exercise 1: Seismic gather conditioning and AVO
  • Angle stack seismic data conditioning
    • Topics: Pseudo gather, alignment of stacks, applying phase and time shift, bandwidth matching
    • Exercise 2: Aligning partial stacks and simultaneous inversion
  • Seismic Data conditioning for Time-Lapse (4D) studies and Azimuthal seismic data studies (AVAz)
