In the last decade, there have been more discoveries in the Norwegian North Sea than in any other region on the NCS. As the importance of infrastructure-led exploration (ILX) grows, CGG launched a multi-year streamer program in 2020 using triple-source and multi-sensor streamer technology as well as new OBN acquisitions to meet this increasing demand for high-quality seismic data in the Northern Viking Graben (NVG) and Southern Viking Graben (SVG). The final deliverables include new NVG dual-azimuth seismic data, NVG Hybrid data optimizing full-waveform inversion (FWI) through sparsely distributed nodes combined with streamer acquisition, and two recent OBN surveys in the SVG.

Carbon storage licensing

For the sixth time the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has announced acreage for CO₂ storage on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, and in 2022, the NSTA commenced the first carbon storage licensing round, awarding offshore acerage for CO₂ appraisal and storage licensing as part of UK decarbonisation incentives.
